Tomato Capital of Canada

Leamington has a mild climate and fertile soil which combine to make is area a perfect place for growing hundreds of fields of tomatoes. The town’s water tower, visible for kilometres in the flat southern Ontario landscape, is in the shape and colour of a giant tomato. The tourist information booth in downtown was shaped like a large fibreglass tomato (closed in 2019).

For many years, Leamington was the home of the H J Heinz factory. Now the tomatoes from the area are made into delicious French’s Ketchup.
