What can be better than running away from busy city life to a beautiful 14 km park and its incredible sand beach.
In the 1900s, families began to discover the beauty of the beach. The beach became a place for picnics and holidays.

There is a fantastic dog beach here in Beach Area 3.
Wasaga Beach Provincial Park includes 100 km of both on-road and off-road trails within its borders.
On August 8, 1934, an event of national and historical significance took place at Wasaga Beach. It was the site of departure for the first overseas flight from mainland Canada across the Atlantic to England.
A plane Trail of the Caribou used Wasaga Beach’s flat beach as the perfect runway.
On August 9, some 24 hours after leaving Wasaga Beach, they sighted Ireland. 30 hours 55 minutes after taking off from Wasaga Beach, they arrived over England and landed at Heston Airport.
The flight had been unsuccessful in its attempt for the world’s longest non-stop distance in an aircraft. But it was successful in establishing the first flight between Canada and Britain.
In 1958, a stone cairn commemorating the historic flight was unveiled at the entrance to Nancy Island Historic Site.

In 2008, piping plover nests were found at Wasaga Beach. The bird is globally threatened and endangered. The Piping Plover Recovery Program was started at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.
In the 19th century and early 20th century, the piping plover was utilized for its feathers, as were many other birds at the time, as decorations for women’s hats. These decorations, called plumes, became a symbol of high society.

Wasaga Beach born and raised Jason Arnott became a Canadian hockey legend with 18 seasons of NHL.
Arnott was born on October 11, 1974, and grew up playing for his hometown Wasaga Beach Stars “DD” of the OMHA. Since then Arnott continued his career with the Edmonton Oilers in 1993–94 after being selected seventh overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.
A two-time NHL All-Star, Arnott won the Stanley Cup in 2000, scoring the championship-winning goal. He played for the Dallas Stars before joining the Nashville Predators in 2006, where he served as captain for three seasons.
Jason also built himself a beautiful riverfront home in Wasaga Beach.

Since 2015 it has been a centre for local businesses to show their products and is beloved by the people of Wasaga. The market runs from June until the first week of October, bringing together local artisans, vendors and the entire Wasaga Beach community to celebrate all that makes this area so special.
Nancy Island has served as a historic site since 1928 and is the most viable site to the War of 1812 in Simcoe County and the Georgian Bay region.
It represents a major event during the War of 1812: HMS Nancy’s battle against three American schooners on August 14th of 1814.
The island houses the charred hull and artifacts of the HMS Nancy from this pivotal moment in Canadian history. The borders of Canada today are a direct result of the valiant struggles of Nancy and her crew!
Visitors to the site can join a heritage costumed staff member and discover the history of Nancy and her crew, participate in a hands-on historical demonstration, view an award-winning video presentation that tells the crew’s heroic story, and club to the top of a Great Lakes 19th Century replica lighthouse for the best view of Wasaga Beach.

Wasaga Beach offers the most breathtaking Nordic ski territories in Central Ontario with 30 kilometres of trails.
Professional skiers are tested on the prepped and track set “High Dunes Trail.” If you are only starting your ski practice, you may pick a beginner-friendly ski on the “Blueberry Trail”. The luckiest skiers sometimes find beautiful local wildlife on their trail.
