The Grotto

For adventurers and thrill-seekers, The Grotto is a popular must-see stop on your trip to Bruce Penninsula.

Follow the one-hour trail to Grotto and Georgian Bay shorelines through the scenic Bruce Trail.

It’s located by the Cyprus Lake campgrounds, with many beautiful sights to discover along the way.

A rare experience in Southern Ontario, go for a dive into the Grotto cave or for a more accessible swim. Stop by the Indian Head Cove at the end of the Bruce Trail.

Ferry to Manitoulin Island

Board the MS Chi-Cheemaun, or the Big Canoe, a passenger and vehicle ferry.

It traverses Lake Huron between Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula and South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island, the world’s largest freshwater island.

The ferry connects the two geographically separate portions of Highway 6.

Ferry to Flowerpot Island

Only a 6.5km boat cruise from the coast of Tobermory lies Flowerpot Island, known for its naturally occurring sea stacks, or rock columns resembling the origins of the island’s name. Board a glass-bottom vessel and view the beautiful scenery.

A unique Ontario island experience offering every adventurer’s favourite activities such as hiking, swimming, cave exploring, and camping. A geologist and botanist’s haven, Flowerpot island offers interesting natural rock formations and rare plant breeds to discover.

You can also explore the Flowerpot Lightstation, a lighthouse built in 1897, and formerly abandoned in 1987 until its restoration in 1996.

Shipwrecks of Big Tub Harbour

Aboard a cruise with Blue Heron and get a closer look at the two shipwrecks located on Big Tub Harbour.

Blue Heron cruises will take visitors to the Sweepstakes, which collided into a rock, sinking it into the shallow water near the Lightstation. The second of the two is the City of Grand Rapids, which, due to a fire, was towed out of Little Tub Harbour and eventually drifted into Big Tub Harbour where it burned underwater.

Both shipwrecks can be seen near the top of the surface and are best viewed from the glass-bottom boat tours offered by Blue Heron.

Bruce Peninsula Orchid Festival

June

Tobermory hosts an annual orchid festival in June.

The Bruce Peninsula is home to 44 species of orchids, of which 2 species are not native to the area. you can expect to see several orchid species blooming on festival weekend, as well as a number of other wildflowers.

Lion’s Head Lookout

Known for its lion head shape, the eroding cliff edge has served as a tourist destination for the past few decades.

It is located in Lion’s Head Provincial Nature Preserve. A forested trail leads before emerging onto some of the best views on the Bruce.

St. Edmunds Township Museum

Visit this seasonal museum built in 1898 for some historical insight into the culture and local history of the Tobermory and St. Edmunds.

This museum highlights life in the times of early settlers on the northern Bruce Peninsula. Offering a unique experience inside of a former nineteenth-century schoolhouse and cabin, discover the unique architecture of settler life in the 1800s.

The museum also exhibits local culture from lumbering, fishing, and hunting as well as the marine history of the local area.

The Sweet Shop

Open since 1980, The Sweet Shop is best known for their old-fashioned treats handmade in-house from creamy fudge to crispy brittle.

Located on the harbour, this local shop offers ice creams and other frozen delectables perfect for the summer, and a wide variety of candies to enjoy.

The Sweet Shop has also opened The Coffee Shop right next door which serves drinks, food, and baked goods such as sandwiches, hot and cold specialty coffees, and their fan favourite and Canadian staple, homemade butter tarts.

Shipwreck Lee’s

“The Original Pirate Bistro”

Shipwreck Lee’s is a local restaurant located right on the harbour that specializes in fish and chips. Open for over 36 years, Shipwreck Lee’s is a Tobermory staple and a must-visit spot for fresh fish and chips along the harbour.

Serving all you can eat or a la carte, this local spot serves everything from fish and chips to chicken and ribs, poutine, deep-fried pickles, and their famous heaping spaghetti. A delicious spot for the family and kids to eat for a toonie!

Lindsay Tract

Bruce county’s largest forest, spreading over 8000 acres of land, Lindsay Tract offers a unique trail with many activities for adventurers and explorers.

The tract is also a sensitive habitat for the Black Bear and Eastern Massassauga Rattlesnake.

You can go mountain biking, hiking, or geocaching and offers a fun challenge for thrill-seekers and skilled outdoor adventurists, with nearby spots for horseback riding, dogsledding, and ATVs.
