Northport Range Rear Lighthouse

Lighthouse

01

The Northport Range Rear Lighthouse was established in 1885 and was used to indicate the channel at the entrance of the Cascumpec Harbor. In 1898 the Lighthouse was discontinued as it no longer represented the best channel through the Harbor.

Today, the Northport Range Rear Lighthouse represents a part of Alberton’s history and is a popular tourist spot.

The Northport Rear Range lighthouse is still in working order. In 1899 it was relocated and enclosed and has been in working condition ever since. The last known lighthouse keeper was James Andrew Gallant, from 1948-1961. Although a lighthouse keeper is no longer needed, the light still guides the fishermen through foggy days when it is needed.
