Thornton Bales Conservation Area

Thornton Bales Conservation Area is part of the Oak Ridges Moraine, known for steep slopes and mind-blowing forest views. The elevation drops 54 meters from one side of the conservation area to another side of the conservation area. It is nicknamed “99 steps” because it takes 99 steps to travel from top to bottom of the ridge.

It is better to enter the conservation area from the Red Oak Trail. Not only is the Red Oak trail connected, but other trails are connected to this conservation area. It is a great place to hike, watch wildlife, and enjoy the view.

King City Trail

King City trail is a well-marked 2.7km loop that takes about 30 – 45 min to complete. It is known for birding, hiking and running. Dogs are also welcomed with a leash on. It is an easy trail to hike as it is not too steep. The trail has nice bridges and the Humber river that runs along the trail.  However, the river is not seen due to the overgrowth of greenery in marshes, grasslands, and pine forests. Yet it is a nice trail to enjoy the greenery during hiking and biking.
