Classified as a Provincial Game Bird Sanctuary, Kimiwan Lake is home to many different bird communities. It is a large lake that spans 10,000 acres but is rather shallow, with an average depth of 0.5 meters.
With a relatively small drainage basin and its broad, shallow features, the lake is susceptible to short-term water level fluctuations as it is subjected to high evaporation rates in the summer. As a result, it undergoes a seasonal drawdown of water levels following spring runoff, allowing new vegetation to colonize exposed bed and shore, rejuvenating and diversifying plant communities.

Great info
I was born in McLennnan 1954 and moved away in 1969. A great memory is skating on the lake in early November. We started skating on the shore area before the bulrushes then at 4 cm we would venture onto the main lake. As we skated across we would occasionally sit on the ice and kick a hole to be sure we had 2 inches!!
Thanks for your unforgettable memories, Gerald.
