Fenelon Falls

Enjoy the miniature “Niagara Falls” flowing through the limestone gorge. Listen to the roar of the falls. Water from Cameron Lake drops over the cliff and flows through the rocky gorge into Sturgeon Lake.

This 7-metre wonder of nature is hidden from plain view but is easily viewed from a nearby restaurant or a path on the north band of the Fenelon River. It can also be viewed from the east side of Colborne Street Bridge.

A great scenic spot to take a selfie.

Lock 34

The Trent-Severn Waterway took almost 100 years to complete. The Fenelon Falls lock 34 was built at the end of the 19th century. The dynamite blasting for the canal sent 50-pound rocks flying far and wide over the surrounding buildings.

Only a quick walk from downtown Fenelon Falls, Lock 34 is located on an island with a wide variety of services. Watch the lock-in operation or sit nearby to hear the rush of the water.

Oak Street

Heritage Conservation District

Oak Street is a must-see place in Fenelon Falls. This attractive street of homes was a planned residential subdivision built around 1895. It is centred on the former Maryboro estate that has historical links to the founding of Fenelon Falls and to the creation of the Trent-Severn waterway. Lots were divided from Maryboro Estate, and the street became a very desirable site for prestigious homes once the canal opened.

The main architectural style is Queen Anne, featuring verandas, towers and many decorative touches to the roofline, cornices, windows and doors.

Enjoy a significant concentration of late 19th and early 20th-century residential buildings, many of which are worthy of individual designation.

Maryboro Lodge Museum

Recommended by Anita Goncalves

Maryboro Lodge is an interactive community museum in the historic home of James and Janet Wallis. James Wallis was one of the founders of Fenelon Falls. He selected this location for his home in 1837. Maryboro Lodge was one of the earliest houses on his scale in the village and is the oldest to survive.

The museum offers a well-maintained history of Fenelon Falls. Take a look at the historical archives, showing the construction of Lock 34 and the communities living in Fenelon Falls from decades past.

Oak Grove and Gardens

A grove of Bur oak trees has been growing on this site for centuries. The trees were recorded by early settlers. The oldest tree in this grove, “the grand old lady,” is over 350 years old. Several others are well over 150.

For generations, Oak Grove has been a community gathering place hosting church picnics, concerts and teas.

Swing Bridge

Don’t miss this historical place at the end of Water Street and the beginning of the Victoria Rail Trail.

At one time, the town’s most popular swimming area, this stretch of Water Street has been transformed in the last years to create an attractive marine entrance to the village and a walkway.

The original railroad bridge of 1875 was replaced by this swing bridge in 1894 so that boats could get to the locks.
