The Largest Fishing Port

Wheatley is the world’s largest freshwater commercial fishing port.

Located right on the waters of Lake Erie, Wheatley is a destination sure to please fishing enthusiasts. You can stroll around to see the large commercial fishing boats at the harbour.

Hike Metal Products, a shipbuilding/refitting/fabricating company based at the harbour, is the builder of the Maid of the Mist, the vessel used at Niagara Falls for the tours under the great Canadian waterfall. It also built a ferry for the Toronto Island Airport.

Captain Wheatley

Walk the Grant Bowman Trail to snap a pic with the Captain Wheatley statue while viewing the beautiful butterfly garden.

In the early 1990s, Captain Wheatley was transformed from a giant Poplar tree trunk into the “Captain Standing at the Ships Wheel.” The Captain was created by Ken Boshell, “The Chainsaw Man of Michigan.”

Wheatley Fish Festival

Canada Day Weekend

The Wheatley Fish Fest attracts thousands each summer with a range of water and fish-themed activities. Featured at the festival are the Big Boyz Fishing Derby, Smoked Fish Contest, Famous Yellow Perch and Broasted Chicken Dinner (all you can eat), Two Creeks Concerts, Parades, Wheatley Idol, as well as other community events.

Taylor Fish & Chips

Using only the freshest ingredients (fish we caught and cut ourselves) and our signature breading, you will be sure to enjoy one of our many perch, pickerel or shrimp dinners. For those craving something other than fish, our Breaded Chicken Finger Meal is a great and fun alternative.

Wheatley Provincial Park

With a latitude south of Northern California, the Wheatley provincial park is one of Canada’s southernmost points. There are a variety of trails, creeks and beaches for guests to enjoy.

The park is famous for having a variety of campgrounds, with a mixture of over 70 electrical and non-electrical campsites, as well as group camping opportunities for up to 50 people.

Two Creeks Conservation Area

There is a variety of vegetation and a trail system that includes several bridges and tons of wildlife to explore. For anyone visiting in the summer, there are free concerts on Sundays. Trails are well-maintained and easy to navigate. Guests can also use the designated bike trails.

Talbot Trail Golf Club

The Talbot Trail Golf Club is a great place to visit for anyone in Wheatley. This nine-hole course is well-maintained with a mixture of challenging and easy holes.

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and cleaning protocols are extensive. They host public and private events and tournaments in the summer and have a new pro shop.

Kopegaron Woods Conservation Area

Visit this gorgeous conservation and hike along one of the most serene forest boardwalk trails in Ontario. Throughout your hike, you will notice Tulip-tree, Sassafras, Black Gum, Sycamore, and wildflowers such as Trillium, May Apple, Spring Beauty, etc.

The Kopegaron Woods Conservation Area is famous for its wildflowers. Therefore, making it an awesome spot for taking photographs.

Hillman Marsh Conservation Area and Beach

This conservation has a unique trail where you’ll find many Shorebird habitats and magnificent picturesque views. Additionally, there is also a nature centre that has educational exhibits about the certain wildlife found in the region. The Hillman Marsh Conservation Area is great for hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, etc.

Campers Cove Campground

This overnight seasonal campground is situated on the shores of Lake Erie. For over 50 years, there have been a variety of activities, including rental cabins, picnic benches, and more.

There are over 200 campsites with nearby soccer fields, badminton and a dog beach. Facilities include free hot showers, fire pits, a snack bar, a video game room and more.

This store is a must-visit if you’re in Wheatley. Dutch House Farm store is well known for its home-cooked meals and organic local grocery items.

Various farm fresh eggs, meats and baking supplies are available for purchase that local farmers craft. Locals love their homemade jams, jellies and peanut butter.
