Murals of Wadena

This roadside attraction consisting of over 20 murals, is Wadena’s artistic reflection. This popular attraction is the result of an artist’s dream that was born with the help of several talented locals. Their subject focuses on Wadena’s history, farming, recreation and wildlife.

 

The murals are also available for viewing online. Maps of murals are available online and at the Wadena Museum and the Town Office. Explore the area for a peek into the talent and history of the town.

Wadena Museum

The Wadena Museum reflects the town’s rich history and evolution over the years. It has preserved the histories of early settlers for future generations to see. It is home to many buildings, including the Brice farmstead built in 1914, a Canadian National Railway station from 1904 and a 1907 rural school.

Other buildings include a blacksmith shop, a general store, a church, an old jail cell and a bathhouse. There is also a Nature Center with interactive displays of wildlife in the Quill Lakes area. Make sure to visit the Museum to get a glimpse of the town’s history.

Wadena Bakery & Coffee Nook

With an exceptional reputation for freshness, the Wadena Bakery & Coffee Nook has proudly been the only scratch bakery in the town since 1959. This family-owned business has been passed down for generations and has maintained the same food quality since the beginning. The bakery offers a variety of items made in-house daily, including specialty bread, pastries, pies and cakes. You can buy these products in small quantities and bulk. Don’t forget to try their most popular Boston Cream donuts!

The coffee nook offers many beverages, including coffee, tea, hot chocolate and specialty cold drinks. They also serve homestyle foods like sandwiches, soup, chilli and stew. Visit the Bakery & Coffee Nook for a taste of Wadena!

Another gem in the food scene of Wadena, this vibrant café is loved by locals and visitors. The Wadena Café has struck a connection with their regular customers over the food and continues to do so with occasional visitors. Their menu ranges from breakfast foods to Chinese delicacies.

Wadena Campground

The quaint Wadena Campground is a great spot for a weekend getaway. Open from May to October annually; the ground has washrooms, showers, change rooms and six 30 – electric amp sites. There is also an outdoor pool, a picnic area with tables, picnic shelters and a playground.

The ground is maintained and cleaned daily, ensuring visitors experience a pleasant evening. The barrier-free campsite and washrooms are completely accessible. Pets are also welcome here. If you are visiting during the months it is open, make sure to drop by!

Wadena Aquatic Center

The Wadena Aquatic Center is a recreational facility for everyone in the town. They have a swimming pool, water slides, seating areas, a diving board, locker rooms, a pavilion, picnic areas and washrooms.

They offer swimming lessons for children from ages 0 to 10 during their operational times from May to August. Drop by for a quick swim, a day out with the kids or host an exciting pool party!

Wadena Golf Course

The Wadena Golf Course is a 9-hole lush course near the Quill Plain wetlands in Eastern Wadena. Lined with many trees and small hills, the course has something for golfers of all skill levels. They also host a weekly co-ed golf night on Tuesdays, which features a round of golf followed by a supper. Open from April to September; this course is a cherished local retreat.
