Sidney Crosby

Home Town of Sidney Crosby

Often regarded as one of the greatest hockey players to play the game, Sidney Crosby was born and raised in Cole Harbour.

 

Crosby has played over 1000 NHL games, achieved 1000 points, won three Stanley Cups, two Conn Smythe Trophies, Three Ted Lindsay Awards, two Hart Memorial Trophies, two Art Ross Trophies, Two Maurice Richard Trophies, one Mark Messier Leadership Award, and a staggering two Olympic Gold Medals just to name a few accomplishments.

Sidney Crosby is very active in Cole Harbour running a hockey school in the summer and creating the Sidney Crosby Foundation.

Home Town of Nathan MacKinnon

Nathan Mackinnon is currently one of the NHL’s most elite players. Having won a memorial cup with the hometown Halifax Moose Heads and is consistently an NHL all-star.

While Mackinnon wasn’t born in Cole Harbour, he played his minor hockey with the Cole Harbour Wings starting his superstar career.

Like Crosby, MacKinnon is very active in the community of Cole Harbour.

Cole Harbour Place

Step foot in the building where Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon played their Minor Hockey!

Complete with displays honouring the two superstars, a swimming pool, fitness centre, and squash courts.

A must-see for any NHL fan.

Salt Marsh Trail

Winding through bogs and salt marsh, Salt Marsh Trail shows off all of Cole Harbour’s unique ecosystems and wildlife.

This trail is perfect for bird watching and very well marked.

This former railway turned 9km trail is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Salt Marsh Trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail.

The most common starting point is from the main parking lot off of Bissett Road.  This lot is often full during peak times.

Another lot across the street for the Shearwater Flyer trail is often full during peak times as well.

An overflow lot 250m around the corner from the main lot on Bissett Road is a great backup plan. This overflow lot connects to a trail that leads 300m to the Salt Marsh Trail, and Cole Harbour Heritage Park just over 1km in the other direction.

The Harbour is a must-see when visiting Cole Harbour. Walk the shoreline and catch a sunset on the beautiful publicly maintained trails.

Lake Banook

One more birthplace of hockey

Lake Banook is one of many places that claim to be the “birthplace of hockey” with games being played on its frozen surface as early as 1827.

Located just five minutes away from Cole Harbour in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Lake Banook has long been a favourite of Cole Harbour residents.

Enjoy the many beaches of Lake Banook or explore by kayak or canoe for a fun-filled day.
