Arches Provincial Park

The Arches Provincial Park is a beautiful natural park displaying unique rock formations and beaches. It is mainly well known for its “arches,” a very specially formed rock with three arches.

The park also contains a beach, hiking and walking trails, bird and wildlife watching, photography, stargazing, and facilities such as cellular service and outhouses across the site.

Nurse Myra Bennett House

The Nurse Myra Bennett House is a house converted into a history museum displaying the life of Myra Bennett. Myra Bennett was a medical worker with exceptional skill and is one of the key people relating to outport nursing in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Bennett House is a large, two-story wooden building with four windows.

Shallow Bay Beach

Shallow Bay Beach is a 5km stretch of beach protected from large waves from the small, low, rocky islands surrounding it. The beach’s characteristic is its shallow water, which warms up tremendously during the summer and is perfect for swimming. The beach also has many varieties of birds landing around it, depending on the season. Around the beach, services include parking, bathrooms, and many picnic tables free to use.

Mountain Waters Resort

Mountain Waters Resort is a natural park located in Portland Creek. The park contains an RV campground, long beaches next to the ocean, sand dunes, salmon fishing and sightseeing tours. In the summer, visitors can canoe and enjoy water sports on the various lakes, and in the winter, snowshoeing can be done on the trails through the trees. Mountain Waters Resort also offers fully functional washrooms with running water and barbeques free to use.

Portland Creek Paddle

Portland Creek Paddle is a kayak/canoeing trail on the east side of Portland Creek next to the Portland Creek Pond. The trail is 31.4km long and goes through the Portland Creek Pond and halfway into the Portland Creek River. It takes roughly 8 hours to complete and is considered a challenging route. This trail is perfect for visitors deciding to fish, camp, or bird watch in the water.

Cow Head Lighthouse and Trail

Cow Head Lighthouse and Trail is a hiking trail that leads to a famous Newfoundland lighthouse. The trail is a 3.2km loop and will take approximately 1 hour to complete, with some rocky terrain and steeper sections. The hiking trail takes visitors to the Cow Head Lighthouse, a famous lighthouse that is over 100 years old. Although not in service anymore, the lighthouse is still preserved and free for visitors to come to see.

Parsons Pond Hill is a hiking trail going up and around Parsons Pond Hill. The trail is approximately 8.2 km long and generally takes around 2.5 hours. The trail is moderately challenging, with a few rocky sections and steep inclines. Parsons Pond Hill is perfect for visitors looking for hiking, snowshoeing, and bird-watching.
