Otterville African Methodist Episcopal Church and Cemetery

This church is one of the last black pioneer burial grounds in all of Ontario. It served as a settlement community for several decades for Black people who had escaped slavery and persecution from the United States. As the people in the community relocated over the years, the church and cemetery were deserted and overgrown by nature.

Today, the site has been restored to honour the 140 black pioneers buried there and to mark the location of the Church.

Otterville Park and Pavilion

A building by the name of Crystal Place used to be at the center of Otterville Park. It was taken apart in 1924, and its parts were used to build a Pavilion. Today, the Pavilion also has tennis and basketball courts, a playground, a ball diamond, and a swimming pool.

The park’s entrance has a unique stone entranceway and a cannon to memorialize the park’s centennial since its settlement. In the stone entranceway, there is also a bronze plaque to honour the area’s World War 1 veterans.
