The Home of Ringette

Ringette is a fast team sport on ice, and it was developed initially for girls and women of all ages. Ringette players use a straight stick to pass, carry and shoot a rubber ring to score goals. Ringette is a team sport with no contact allowed.

Espaniola is where the first experimental rules for ringette were created in 1963 by Mirl Arthur “Red” McCarthy using a group of local girls from the Espanola High School.

Espanola Heritage Park

Espanola Heritage Park allows for a break for a while and has fun. Feel free to sunbathe, read a book, admire the greenery, walk with your pets, meditate, smell flowers or participate in celebrations in your free time.

Spanish River Dam

A metal railway bridge crowns the dam. The lower third of the falls is still over bedrock.

Looks amazing from the road, a lovely scenic area.

Great Lakes Waterfront Trail

Part of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail runs through Espanola. In downtown Espanola, the trail forks. One section goes to the north. The other goes south, where it eventually joins the Bruce Trail via ferry to the Bruce Peninsula.

Algoma Park

Algoma Park provides the residents with a means to take a break and have fun. Feel free to read a book, listen to music, smell flowers, get together with some friends, meet some people, bring a dog, admire the greenery, arrange a date or have a picnic in your free time.

Clear Lake Beach Park

A good place to stop for a break after a long journey. There is an excellent little beach front with some places to sit and a nice little park for kids to play on.
