Courtenay and District Museum

The Courtenay and District Museum and Paleontology Centre preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the Comox Valley. The museum offers fossils, geology, pioneer settlement history, First Nations history, and more, as well as changing exhibitions! 

A popular adventure to take part in is the fossil tours that the museum hosts! The tour includes a lecture about the discoveries that were famously made in the local area! These tours are informative and fun during the summer months.

Comox Valley Art Gallery

The Comox Valley Art Gallery is a public art gallery with many regional, national, and international artists. The featured art styles include experimental, contemporary, and applied art.

The gallery has ever-changing exhibitions and pieces that keep people coming back to see the new artists featured. There is also a gift shop in the gallery that sells handmade crafts and art from local artists and artisans!

Simms Summer Concert Series

Simms Millennium Park is located by the 5th Street Bridge and across from Lewis Park. Please bring your lawn chair or blanket.

I-Hos Gallery

The I-Hos Gallery is an art gallery that contains a collection of contemporary Northwest Coast art! The artwork includes masks, jewelry, prints, wood carvings, and more. First Nations artists produce all the art in this gallery. The gallery deals directly with these artists and provides legends and artist biographies when displaying their artwork!

The I-Hos Gallery is a participant of a program called Authentic Indigenous which authorizes identifying tourism operators that provide experiences for people while also supporting and respecting Indigenous communities.

Courtenay Airpark

The Courtenay Airpark is a place for both aviators and the public! The airpark is a small public aerodrome on the banks of the Courtenay River. The park consists of a runway, a self-serve fuel stop, and floatplane facilities. This park is a crucial destination for aviators from all around. 

The Courtenay Airpark is one of very few airfields left that allow the public to get a close-up view of light aircraft. The aircraft can be viewed during take-off and landings, wheeled and on floats! The airpark has surrounding nature parkland and the Courtenay River Walkway, which people can enjoy while at the park!

Puntledge River Hatchery

The Puntledge River was once known for its two kinds of chinook salmon. The hatchery boasted summer and fall runs of these salmon and different steelhead trout and salmon species. This hatchery exists to save these chinook salmon from extinction! 

There are self-guided tours that you can do to view the hatchery and river. Signs and displays are placed throughout to inform people about the hatchery. There is also an underwater viewing area where you can stop to view the fish! As well as exploring the hatchery, you can walk on the many paths by the river.

Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens

The Kitty Coleman Woodland Gardens is a beautiful place to visit in Courtenay. The gardens are on 24 acres of land with many walking paths and water features. An exciting feature that sets these gardens apart is the rhododendron plantings collection. The gardens include a gazebo, picnic area, resting benches, and even a tea room for visitors. The gardens are open all year round for visitors and locals to explore!

Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery

The Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery has a collection of Pacific Northwest Coast Native Culture and Native Art. Visitors can visit the gallery to experience the artwork and learn more about Native art. Some of the artwork showcased in the gallery includes paddles, masks, carvings, jewelry, and more. As well as being able to view the art, you can also purchase some while you are there! The staff are knowledgeable and will teach people about the background of each artist while you are there!

Millard Nature Park

The Millard Nature Park is an escape to nature located right in town. The park includes a variety of species of trees and plants. Many walking paths go throughout the park, with some interpretive signs explaining different aspects of the park’s natural history. 

The park also has a viewing platform on the southeast side which is a crucial place to visit to see the beautiful views!

Miracle Beach Provincial Park

The Miracle Beach Provincial Park is an excellent place for a family adventure. It faces Oceanside with a beach.

Visitors have many opportunities such as horse riding, fishing, golf, etc.

Seal Bay Nature’s Park

This park was logged in 1913, where the springboard marks are still visible on the old-growth stumps. 

The park also has a small Japanese camp along the beach.

Nymph Falls Nature Park

This is the second-growth forest that is located on the north side of the Puntledge River. The glacier water runs calm, clear, and relaxed in the summer. 

This is also a famous spot for fishing, especially in October and November, to leap their way up the falls. 

Travellers enjoy one of the most scenic views in the valley.

The HMCS Alberni Museum and Memorial

This museum is a remembrance program created to bring attention to the stories and lives of Canadians who served in the military from the Great War to the present day. A central part of the museum is the artifacts and artwork that are on display year-round. The museum’s exciting artifacts are medals, clothing, photographs, paintings, memorabilia, and personalized accounts. 

The museum also has a shop where visitors can buy items to remember their visit!

Sid Williams Theatre

The Sid Williams Theatre is a 500-seat performing arts center in downtown Courtenay. The theatre is home to community groups, a professional venue for commercial events, and a place to hold performances.

The theatre is a place for everyone and is dedicated to being inclusive and welcoming! The centre is one of the busiest for its size in the province of British Columbia as they host many events and performances for all ages!
