Bonnyville Museum

The Bonnyville & District Museum houses an impressive collection of thousands of artifacts relevant to the development and settlement of the Bonnyville Region.

Across two acres are two churches, the Durlingville Schoolhouse, the 1920s Vallee Store, an expansive hospital exhibit, and a replica of Angus Shaw’s 1789 North West Company Post at Moose Lake. One quaint 1907 house and a 1920s log cabin typify pioneer life as it was in the early years here in Bonnyville.

John Kwasek “The Tree Man” Park

The beautiful park overlooking Jessie Lake is a great place to have a picnic, read a book, play with your kids, arrange a date, meet people, listen to music or sunbathe in your free time.

The park runs along the lake before changing into Lions Memorial Park and the waterfowl lookout tower, a great spot for bird watching.

Jessie Lake Trail

This 17.4 km loop around Jessie Lake is a breathtaking hike. While a long hike, typically taking a little over 4 hours, the terrain is flat and has beautiful lookouts at each point around the lake. The trail is also fantastic for birding and mountain biking and is open all year round.

Iron Horse Trail

The Iron Horse Trail is Alberta’s longest completed section of the Trans-Canada trail.

The Trans-Canada trail was first made during the mid-1800s, during the peak of the fur trade for a transportation road on Red River Carts. In the 1900s, it was used by CN transportation for its train, which was referred to as the Iron Horse, hence the name.

The section in Alberta is a 300 km continuous trail that winds through Bonnyville and is open all year round.

The best place to access this trail is near the corner of Hwy 41 and 54 Avenue.

Lynn Rob Strawberries

This farm began in 1988 with a single patch of strawberries and has grown to over 10 acres and is one of northeast Alberta’s most popular stops for fruits and vegetables. They offer pre-picked or u-pick fresh produce, with no appointment necessary. The main attraction, though, is their delicious strawberries. They also offer freshly made jams and jellies for you to enjoy.

Rocky Meadows U-Pick Saskatoon Farm and Café

This farm, owned and started by Vince and Lori Taker, is the go-to place for Saskatoon berries. This farm has been open since 2003 and has over 1000 Saskatoon trees. As the name implies, you can pick your berries! That’s not all they offer, however. You can enjoy a fun game of mini golf, a delicious slice of homemade pie, a relaxing river float ride or stay at their campsite.

This local 50’s style diner opened in 2012 and has been a hit amongst locals and tourists. The nostalgic decor and music pair great with the menu’s long list of homemade recipes.  Enjoy an all-day breakfast and a full bakery with cupcakes, bread and jam. There is even a fair amount of vegan and gluten-free options.
