Big Valley Railway Station & Museum

A centrepiece within Big Valley is a great sight while exploring the town. Built in 1912, this historic railway station has served three major railways in Canada. Containing original railway equipment like a wooden caboose and a CPR horse-express car and offering places to stop and have a picnic, this is a must-see for you and your family.

St. Edmund’s Church

Heritage building

Originally built at the end of 1916, this Church is a symbol of what Big Valley once was, a booming ranching community linked with a huge coal mining center. Unusually painted blue, this has become the town’s trademark and dubbed the “Big Ben of Big Valley.”

Oil Well Pumper

Located in the beautiful Memorial Park, the pump jack is another great symbol of what Big Valley once was, a booming community rooted in the Oil Boom that happened in the 1950s.

Jimmy Jock Boardwalk

Named after a local Chinese restauranteur who operated this tiny shop in the Golden days, this is a must-see for some ice cream and fudge with their in-house fudge factory while also giving patrons a glimpse at the classic Wild Wild West.

Big Valley Historic Jail

Between the early 1900s to the 1940s, this jail cell is a big glimpse into Big Valleys’ past. Many cowboys, miners, and railroad workers once filled this small cell waiting for their day to create havoc again.

Big Valley Creation Science Museum

Don’t be fooled by its small size, the Big Valley Creation Museum has many fossils to view and explore. If you strongly desire to learn about creation science and hear about this Biblical worldview, this is the place to stop during your visit to Big Valley.

Big Valley Grain Elevator

Heritage building

This is Big Valley’s last grain elevator and was saved by Big Valley Historical Society when it closed in 1997. It is easy to see on Railway Ave as you enter the village. Feel free to wander around and take pictures.

To see inside, you need to contact a member of the historical society.
