Oaklawn Farm Zoo

Nova Scotia’s largest zoo, the Oaklawn Farm Zoo, was inaugurated in 1984 and housed various exotic, local and domestic animals. Set against a typical farm setting, the 50-acre zoo takes pride in its fair practices in providing shelter and care for endangered species. They offer an educational and personalized nature driver experience for visitors of all ages.

Open daily, from April to November, the zoo is also home to a restaurant, picnic area and souvenir shop. The most notable activities here include visitors feeding animals like deer and goats and meal time for the big cats and bears. Visit today for a memorable rural adventure!

Dempsey Corner Orchards

A popular point during Fall and Summer, the Dempsey Corner Orchard is a family-operated farm in Aylesford. They offer fresh seasonal produce, including pumpkin, corn, squash, beets and nine varieties of fruits. For children, the site houses a farm-themed play area and a petting zoo where they can meet bunnies and cats and bottle-feed baby sheep!

There is also a bakery and tea room offering fresh farm delicacies on-site. The orchards host various events throughout the year, including scavenger hunts, seasonal weekend festivals and wagon rides. Open six days a week, the Dempsey Corner Orchards will make for a delightful day out with the family!

Aylesford Lake Beach

A popular park, Aylesford Lake Beach is a man-made site inaugurated for the town’s residents in 1990. Always packed during the warmer months, it has a public boat launch, a boardwalk, picnic tables, boat docks, a large field, trails and a playground. Amenities include a canteen, changing rooms, drinking water stations and a parking lot. If you are visiting with children, make sure to head to the section that is supervised by lifeguards. Go for a swim on the beach or hike in the surrounding trails, you will not experience a dull moment at this park.

Klahanie Kamping Ltd

A well-kept secret, Klahanie Kamping Ltd is 75 acres of campground that offers 70 overnight sites, 80 seasonal sites and four cabins. The ground houses a beautiful pond, two swimming pools and a playground, all set against the town’s striking landscapes. Fox Mountain Camping Park

Another great camping site in Aylesford, the Fox Mountain Camping Park, is a hidden gem! Overlooking the beautiful Annapolis Valley, this RV park offers many activities for its guests, including music festivals, horseback trail rides and ATV rallies. The annual Fox Mountain Country Music Festival held every August is one of the highlights of this site. The park is also close to Aylesford Lake, making it a great spot for visitors who want to escape into nature. Amenities include free WiFi, well-maintained washrooms with showers, fire pits, picnic tables, horse tie-up points and a canteen. The pet-friendly park also features a large stage for live events, guided horses and walking trails.

Crystal Falls

A breathtaking site nestled between a lush forest, Crystal Falls is a must-visit. The way to the falls follows a 3.7-kilometre out-and-back trail, starting from Harmony Road and ending at the Crystal Falls pond. The route is relatively easy and suitable for hikers of all skill levels. Despite being somewhat steep, the hike down to the falls is enjoyable and requires minimal effort. Taking approximately 1 hour to complete, the breathtaking view at the end of the journey is worth it. Check out some local birds along the way, or dip in the fresh flowing water! Visitors who do not enjoy hiking can also bike down the path to explore the peaceful site. Pets are allowed but must be leashed at all times in the area. The Crystal Falls are perfect for a quick summer day trip!
