Scuba Diving

A little-known fact is that Amherst Island is a great location for scuba diving. Across the Island sits another isle named Amherst Island Graveyard, after the many shipwrecking accidents that took lives on its coastal waters. In the waters of Amherst, scuba divers have found traces of shipwrecked boats, such as the ship Comet that sank a century ago. Adventurous scuba divers, try your luck!

Feidin Walls

Amherst Island has a long Irish settler history, and this is reflected in the topography and buildings constructed when they settled. You can view this unique part of Canadian history at the Dry-Stone Wall rocks. This is an Irish stone-building technique that stacks stones atop each other without concrete to create walls and barriers. Dry Stone Wall constitute a significant landmark on Amherst Island because they are a monument to a century-old Irish tradition little seen anywhere else in the world.

Fishing in Amherst Island Waters

Amherst Island receives a record number of European visitors to the Kingston area because fishing in the region is open to the public, unlike in other European countries. In addition, the variety of salmon, trout, bass, and pike has been a huge attraction for fishermen as a hotspot for years.

The Back Kitchen

A great local restaurant that has been serving patrons for decades. This diner serves reasonably priced fresh fish caught locally but also serves as a community gathering spot for Islanders to come together, hang out, and eat. This spot hires student volunteers, which makes it a lively place for youth on a night out to eat and play
