Being among the biosphere regions across Canada, Redberry Lake received a UNESCO designation as a biosphere region in 2000. It is located in Aspen Parkland, and due to its abundant wildlife and native plant species, the region is a critical site for conservation.

The landscape is within Treaty 6 Territory – a traditional gathering place for Indigenous peoples and majestic bison.
