Hoodoos

A hoodoo is a tall, thin spire of rock that protrudes from the bottom of an arid drainage basin or badland.

06

The Hoodoos take millions of years to form and stand 5 to 7 meters tall. They are naturally shaped by wind and water and each hoodoo is a sandstone pillar resting on a thick base of shale that is capped by a large stone.

The Hoodoos is a Provincial Historic Resource and one of Alberta’s most popular and recognizable geological formations.
