Hayley Wickenheiser | Five-time Olympic medalist

Hayley Wickenheiser is regarded as one of the best female hockey players in the world.

  • Born in 1978 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan

Hayley Wickenheiser was the first woman to play full-time professional hockey in a position other than goalie. Wickenheiser was a member of Canada women’s national ice hockey team for 23 years, from 1994 until announcing her retirement on January 13, 2017.

 

As an Olympian, she earned:

  • a silver medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics
  • four Olympic gold medals in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics.

She is the team’s career points leader with 168 goals and 211 assists in 276 games.

  The town of Shaunavon is located in southwest Saskatchewan. Shaunavon was established in 1913 along the Canadian Pacific Railway line. The town has several nicknames including

The latter name is derived from the park located in the centre of town.
